Sump Pit

Before I can start with the foundation for the shed, I need to work on diverting the "lake" on the side of the house caused by the basement sump pump.

The shed and trees in the picture will also be removed as soon as it warms up a bit.
This morning I drove down to Springfield to pick up some tiles to create the sump pit that will drain both the basement and shed.

The plan is to collect the drainage and pump it out to the field 60' (18.2m) away.

Permit in Hand - Round 2

After our previous experience in getting a Zoning Exception and Permit, I knew it would take a couple of months of "process and procedure" to get the new Building Permit secured.
First comes the applicant's requirement to build something outside the scope of the approved building ordinance, then the application (and fee) for exception is made. The town then prints the request in the local paper and the neighbors are notified of the exception request. After that, your request is placed on the agenda of the Zoning board meeting (expect a lot of questions and explanations there). If the request is approved it is then placed on the agenda for the next town council meeting. The meetings run on a monthly schedule, so it can take a good ten weeks to process if there are no objections. In my case, the council was happy that I followed the process and had no concerns with my request. The Permit was unanimously approved and processed by both committees.

I picked it up yesterday. Yes, Friday the 13th... I hope that's OK.

My initial exception request was to build a wooden 21' (6.4m) tall building, but since then I found a bolt together (C-channel steel framed) building that is not quite that tall but will meet my needs without having to rent an expensive crane to erect. The actual building size will be 32'x54'  (9.75m x 16.4m), and the peak will come in at just about 17' (5.1m) tall.

The deposit has been made, so now we're just waiting on the weather to get the project started.
